Introducing the manic masters of full-throttle alt folk: Man The Lifeboats
Man The Lifeboats is a band that’s really hard to stand still to. They belt out rough ‘n’ ready upbeat storytelling folk songs of candid lyrics backed by full-tone bass lines and stomping beats. This band is end-of-the-world party-time.
Born in a shanty-punk folk mosh pit way back in 2016 and inspired by the likes of Skinny Lister and Holy Moly & The Crackers, Man The Lifeboats have since burned through over 100 gigs on the folk circuit winning over audiences at Moseley, Purbeck, Warwick, Swanage, Jurassic Fields, Beardy Folk, Folk in a Field, Bearded Theory, Deepdale, Ragged Bear and so many more.
Some people compare them to Bellowhead. Others feel that they allude to The Waterboys, Oysterband or Levellers, but we think they’re a big nod in the direction of the Pogues.
Their second album, Soul Of Albion scorched 27 in the official folk charts in 2022. Recorded at Rockfield Studios, it sounds like Led Zeppelin arm-wrestling Shane McGowan in a Birmingham brewery. Like Fruitbat fronting Fairport Convention. Like The Albion Band turned up to 11 with their fiddles on fire.
Tonic for these troubled times? Oh, yes, indeedy.
